Urulai Kizhangu Bonda, a delicious deep fried snack made from potato stuffing covered with chickpea flour batter. Last weekend, it was  drizzling outside continuously and all of sudden I had a craving for this bonda, so made this snack for our tea time. There is nothing better than a bite of bonda with a sip of tea on a rainy day !!! It tastes heavenly !!!
Personally, i like my bonda with coconut chutney but on that day i was super lazy to make chutney, so serve it with some sriracha sauce. Even tomato ketchup tastes good with bonda.

Whenever i'm planning to make any snack like bonda/vada pav for evening time, i prefer to pressure cook the potato along with lunch preparation or sometimes even prepare the stuffing and keep it ready during lunch prep. That way it comes handy at evening time.

In the time of making tea/chai, you can deep fry the bonda in another stove. Otherwise i'm kind of feel exhausted and overwhelmed if need to do all the work in the evening again. Little planning helps a lot !!! Now let's check out how to make this potato bonda.
Ps: updated the post on Aug 2020

Procedure
First cut onions and ginger into small pieces, Heat the oil in a kadai, add mustard & urad dal and let it splutter and then add onion, ginger and curry leaves.
Saute it till the onions become translucent and then add the spices (turmeric, chili powder) and salt . Give a good mix and add the cooked and mashed potatoes.
Stir the potatoes in the masala well and then add few coriander leaves . Switch off the flame and allow to cool. Make small balls from the potato masala . That's it our stuffing is ready.
For the batter, add all the ingredients listed under "For Batter"  in a bowl and add enough water to make thick paste. The batter should be thick enough to coat the potatoes.
Heat the oil in a kadai for frying.Take potato balls, dip it in the batter, coat on all sides and drop it  in the oil slowly. Cook on both side on medium flame. Remove from oil and place it on tissue paper.
Serve it with your favorite chutney/sauce or ketchup.
