If you're a regular reader of my blog, you might know that i'm doing Mega blogging marathan for this month.For this week ,we are doing condiments  across the world. As per wiki , it says,
condiment is a spice, sauce, or other food preparation that is added to food to impart a particular flavor, to enhance its flavor,or in some cultures, to complement the dish. The term originally described pickled or preserved foods, but has shifted meaning over time.

We Indians, use turmeric in almost every dishes. Turmeric has lot of medicinal values, it's a natural antispectic & anti bacterial agent, help in curing burns & cuts.

Few months back, i got severe cold & head ache, after took the tablets, i felt better, but the head heaviness never went away. My mom suggest to inhale the turmeric fumes, it will help to reduce the head heaviness. Immediately i bought a bag of dried turmeric sticks & tried her remedy, it works .

Remaining bag of turmeric sticks are untouched for a while,as i dont want to waste that , make turmeric powder out of it. To my surprise, the flavor of the turmeric powder is better than the store brought ones. As i made very little quantity, i used my mixie to grind this. If you're making in large batch, grind it in mill.
The making process is very simple and not even a recipe, just give you an idea how can you make turmeric powder at home.

Home made Turmeric Powder

Ingredients
Dried Turmeric Sticks - 50 gm


Procedure
Sun dried the turmeric sticks for 2 days.
Take the dried turmeric sticks and roughly break into pieces. i used my hand motor pestle to do it.Heat a pan, add the turmeric, roast in a while(just enough to warm the sticks). Allow to cool completely. 
Put it in blender and grind into smooth powder.Spread the turmeric powder in the paper and allow to cool completely.Put it in airtight container and always use clean spoon to use. Home made turmeric powder is ready.
Notes:
  • Store the powder once it's completely cooled, other the color of the powder get changed.
  • If you make powder immediately after sun dried, then no need to dry roast it. I made this after a day, so dry roast it slightly.

  2. thats a cracker of a recipe.. somehow I am unable to get the manjal kombu easily here... Mom makes manjal podi the same way ...

  7. Homemade turmeric does taste good and I feel it lends a different color to food. I use to bring homemade powder from India but not anymore. I buy it here itself.

  12. Definitely home made one would be superior in quality. My grandmother used to prepare her own turmeric powder. Though I have turmeric roots with me, I have never tried grinding them.
