Sukku Coffee powder | Sukku Coffee | Sukku Malli Coffee | How to make Sukku Coffee Powder at home

Sukku Coffee/Sukku Malli Kaapi, an Indian herbal concoction drink  made with key ingredients like dry ginger, coriander seeds, pepper corns and a few more spices. It's one of the best home remedies for common cold, body ache & sore throat.

In Tamil, Sukku means "Dry Ginger"  and Coriander Seeds is known as "Kothamalli" and in short it's called "Malli". So this concoction is known as either Sukku Coffee or Sukku Malli Coffee.

Honestly I don't know why it's called coffee but my wild guess is since in those days, coffee was made by boiling hot water and then adding coffee powder & sweetener. Simmer it for a few mins and strain ! Preparation of sukku coffee is almost similar. Instead of coffee powder here we use spice powder, so to differentiate this from actual coffee, it might be called "Sukku Coffee".

Sukku Kaapi

Amma used to make this coffee once or twice in a month during our school days because not only it's good to treat common cold symptoms, it also helps to treat an upset stomach and increase the appetite and prevent the nausea & dizziness caused by Pitham/excess formation of stomach bile.

In those days, Amma always made the sukku coffee powder freshly in Ammi(hand mortar & pestle) whenever needed. But nowadays, we use to make this powder in a mixie/blender and store it, so it comes handy whenever you need to make sukku kaapi.

Now let's see how to make this sukku coffee powder & coffee !

    1. No, we don't usually add the palm jaggery in it. Without any sweetener, the self life of it will be longer.
