Baby bitter gourd is comparatively have less bitterness than the regular one. So if you dont like bitter gourd just like me, try baby bitter gourd for this poriyal. Adding dal & coconut to this poriyal subside the bitterness of the bitter gourd.
It is very simple recipe, with very few ingredients, we can make this poriyal. ok. now let see the procedure.
Ingredients
Baby Bittergourd - 11 nos
Onion - 1 (medium size)
Green Chili - 1 no
Cooked Toor Dal - 2 tbsp
Grated coconut - 1 1/2 tbsp
Salt - to taste
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard & urad dal - 1/4 tsp
Procedure
Wash the bitter gourd well and chop bitter gourd , onion & green chili into fine pieces.
Heat a kadai with oil, add mustard ,allow to splutter, then add urad dal,onions,green chili one by one.
Saute it well, once onions become translucent , add bitter gourd and saute it for few mins.
Then add enough water (just to immerse the veggie) along with salt. Cover it & cook the bitter gourd.
Once the bitter gourd is cooked, add the dal, coconut & give a quick stir and let it in flame for 2 more mins or until all the water is evaporated and then switch off the flame.
Bitter gourd poriyal is ready to serve . It taste great with sambar.

Note:
- No need to remove the seed from the bitter gourd.
- I make this poriyal along with sambar, so when i cook dal for sambar , reserve some dal for this poriyal.
